Twitter Phishing Attack In Progress

Don’t Click on “lol, Is This You??”

The New York Times reports a twitter phishing attack in progress

If you receive a direct message on Twitter that says, “lol, is this you,” don’t click it.

The link will put up a fake Twitter login page, potentially tricking you into giving the phisher your Twitter login and password.

The phishing messages look like this:

“Lol. this you?? http://divinelink.net/?rid=http://twitter.verify.bzpharma.net/login”

Warnings of the attack began circulating on Twitter in the U.S. on Saturday afternoon.

Toyota is the just the most recently visible company to fall behind in the battle for Customer Love on Twitter.
Companies just can't afford to lay low and hope to stay below the radar of either consumers, pundits, stockholders or regulators.  The twittersphere is still active - just check for #toyota and #recall.

Toyota, and other manufacturers, have survived recalls before.  It's the PR and CRM damage that takes them down from their pedestals.

Toyota's tardy and uninformative responses winds up making them looking greedy, calculating, deceitful and clueless when their public is spreading information, disinformation, opinions, speculations and lies at the nanosecond speed of interthought via twitter, facebook, blogs and other social media.

As the Big Money reports,

Anyone with access to the Internet is now a micro-Nader, an antlike information-gathering-and-broadcasting agent who can contribute his experiences and interpretations to the data stream.
Back in the good old days, Ford, GM, and Audi survived recall disasters just by being big and having PR and political clout. Sure, the Pinto and Corvair were toast (so to speak), but the companies marched on.

Is Toyota big enough to survive in internet time, or will a million tweets come home to roost?

Five Ways to Create a Low-Maintenance Social Media Presence

Companies and professionals have tried to spread their social networking presence across hundreds of different websites and services. For some, particularly the superhuman ones, it seems to work out. One great blog post a week is worth much more than six poor ones. When you are promoting your own work, it is best to value infrequent, high quality content above all else. 4) Establish behavioral patterns that build a reputation.

Woman Loses Job Over Facebook Pics

A Quebec woman on long-term sick leave is fighting to have her benefits reinstated after her employer's insurance company cut them, she says, because of photos posted on Facebook.
On leave from IBM because of depression,  Nathalie Blanchard was outed having a good time at Chippendale's on her birthday.  It's not clear to me how the pictures on Facebook were brought to her empolyer's or insurer's attention...a jealous coworker, human resources stalker...?
